New projects drive the demand

When we speak with one of the managers within mechanical design, the picture that emerges is of an organization in motion, one that is growing both technically and in terms of competence.

– "We see a significant increase in demand, and together with new marine investments, this means we need to expand our team," says Björn Johansson, Section Manager for Design.

He highlights that several major projects are currently facing new designs and further development.

– "It is an exciting mix. Everything from detailed design and modifications to existing systems to completely new marine solutions."

Full breadth: from ammunition to advanced marine systems

BAE Systems Bofors works with several technology domains in parallel. All product areas are being scaled up, and in the long term, more designers will be required than today. In the projects, work is often carried out in smaller groups of two to three designers and one design lead, while larger systems involve entirely different resources.

– "This means you quickly gain responsibility but also support. Teamwork and project-based work are absolutely central here," says Björn Johansson.

The technology areas include, among others, welding, hydraulics, mechanical subsystems, and composite structures. For those who wish to specialize, there are great opportunities to deepen their expertise in a specific track.

Major expansion – but with a focus on long-term sustainability

BAE Systems Bofors does not describe the current investment as a short-term peak, but rather as part of a longer development within the group. In recent years, the investment rate has increased, and new system areas have been established.

– "There is pride in contributing technology that maintains high quality and makes a difference," concludes Björn Johansson.

Examples of tasks:

• Work with mechanical design in both existing and entirely new systems
• Make drawing changes, improvements, and technical updates
• Create models, drawings, and documentation in CAD
• Contribute to projects within ammunition, land systems, and marine systems
• Collaborate closely with production, testing, system engineers, and manufacturing
• Participate in project meetings, weekly pulses, and technical reviews
• Work in small, self-managing teams with significant influence on technical decisions
• Follow solutions from idea to finished product – including verification and testing

Are you the one we are looking for?

To succeed in the role, you have:

• Several years of experience in mechanical design or a corresponding technical background
• A good understanding of mechanical structures, strength, and manufacturing methods
• The ability to take initiative, ask questions, and get started quickly in new projects
• Competence in CAD (e.g., NX, Solid Edge, or similar)
• Good knowledge of both Swedish and English
